What were the home remedies used?
Aside from doctors' procedures, they had several natural remedies for curing patients at home. The remedies used to cure the Black Plague were as such: rubbing onions, herbs or a sliced snake on the buboes, drinking vinegar, rubbing a chopped pigeon over the contaminated body, sitting close to a fire to sweat the fever away, and cleansing the area through the use of herbs. Some even consumed ground minerals, arsenic, mercury or treacle - a syrup made from partly refined sugar - believing that would restore them to health.
